About Cosmos Mystery Area Admission

Book Direct with the Owner at Cosmos Mystery Area Admission with Students Accommodation in Rapid City, for all your Attraction and travel needs.

Visit: Cosmos Mystery Area, 24040 Cosmos Rd, Rapid City, SD 57702-7414

The mystery house located within the Cosmos of the Black Hills was discovered in 1952 by two college students who were looking for the perfect place to build a summer cabin. Here, the laws of logic and physics seem to be turned upside down as you feel a slight unbalance in this crooked old cabin.

Admission includes a 30 minute guided, interactive tour where you will be amazed as you see water run uphill, can stand on a wall, and see other incredible optical illusions. The tour consists of various demonstrations that are designed to boggle the mind.

Located just minutes from Rapid City and Mount Rushmore, The Cosmos is sure to astonish and amaze the mind.

This was really a fun and worthwhile excursion. Very interactive. If you get motion sick, I recommend taking a non-drowsy Dramanine before the tour. You won't be on a boat or anything, but may experience some vertigo during the tour. This was definitely out of the ordinary experience. Not like anything I have ever done before. I'm glad we went! Plus it's in the Black Hills and was nice to get some fresh forest air for a little bit.

So I remembered coming here as a kid with my grand parents. It has not changed much except that now the tour guide really tries to sell this weird gravity lie and story about college students. It is a pretty good optical illusion with fun displays. But as a science teacher I was really bothered that they kept lying to my young girls who I actually had to explain that gravity doesn’t work that way. Even sadder many of the adults left thinking that it was true ( a sad state for American education :(

Yes, I knew going into this, it really has to do with optics/illusion, but still piqued my interest. I read about dizziness and such on the reviews, but that didn’t apply to me. Or, did it? Yes, it did. Now I know why there was someone else waiting for their group to finish the tour before we headed out. I’m older, so that may have something to do with it, but I could not finish the tour, as I felt so disoriented. Thankfully, there were handrails. We bowed out half way through the tour. Still felt dizzy a half an hour later. I can’t discredit the place. Even though we didn’t get the whole experience, it was still a cool experience. The kids in our group had a blast! Probably too much fun, as some little rug rat (lol) kept running and falling into me. The other (younger) adults in our group had fun as well. Not sure why the address is listed as Rapid City. It is just outside of Keystone.

This is truly a DON'T MISS attraction in the Black Hills! We made a last minute decision to take the tour ( 10 adults and 2 kids ages 8, 10) - it turned out to be one of everyone's favorite stops! Crazy, weird, but fun place! Tour takes about 20 min or so and our guide was delightful! It does mess with your head - and create kind of a sea-sick feeling - did have one member of our group step out because she was a little nauseated, but all in all - a very interesting experience! Bought a bag of Cosmos Mining Co Gem Mining dirt (the Lucky Strike bag size) from the shop to take home for some little neighbor girls to sift through - unbelievable number of different rocks were found in it (24 I think in all) - what a great idea for rock lovers! Be sure to check this place out! WORTH IT!

Let me start by saying DO NOT GO PREGNANT. I have been here several times and have always been fine. Going pregnant really messed with my vertigo and made me feel so sick that I had to step out early. My boyfriend and I took his 5 year old. It was a first time for both of them and they really enjoyed it. I do wish they did a couple more demonstrations or things for the kids because it's a lot of talking and the kids get bored really easy waiting to try things for themselves. We also did the geode cracking, which the 5 year old enjoyed because of the "diamonds" in the rocks.

It was amazing. We loved it. All my children from 10 to 22 loved it and couldn't stop talking about it all day.

My teenage boys enjoyed the tricks and optical illusions but my husband and I felt like it was a waste of money. It was 30-40 minutes to walk up a hill and experience a few "tricks". There are better values in town to spend time and money.

A fun, mind bending stop. Unique experience, fun demonstrations and quippy jokes from the tour guide kept us laughing and entertained. Our guide seemed very experienced and gave good safety instructions so the tour was best enjoyed by all ages. Very memorable. Be prepared for steep walking (handrails available) and a bit of dizziness.

Silly "mysteries" and optical illusions bedazzle some and strain the ankles of others. Guide was good. Lots of kid-friendly things to do additionally, like gem mining.
